Summary:

A prespecified sub-group analysis of the PRACTICAL study in patients with asthma showed that the reduction in severe exacerbation risk with budesonide-formoterol reliever compared with maintenance budesonide was similar in Māori and Pacific adults compared with New Zealand European/Other. Of 890 adults with mild to moderate asthma enrolled in the study, 72 (8%) identified as Māori and 36 (4%) as Pacific. There was no evidence of an ethnicity-treatment interaction for severe exacerbations of asthma.www.facebook.com/tekareremaorinews/videos/2668876773327946

Dr Matire Harwood (Ngapuhi) has worked in Hauora Māori, primary health and rehabilitation settings as clinician and researcher since graduating from Auckland Medical School in 1994. She also holds positions on a number of boards, committees and advisory groups including the Health Research Council.
